Government says businesses are paying out an extra £5bn a year on complying
with employment laws introduced since 1997.
Employment
Relations Minister Alan Johnson says the extra costs are due to employment
legislation implemented by the Department of Trade and Industry, according to

The
website said that in a Commons written answer to Tory MP David Heathcoat-Amory,
Johnston said: "The vast majority of these costs arise through the
provision of enhanced terms and conditions of employment."
