Reward managers remain the highest paid specialists within the HR profession, earning 32 per cent above the average salary for a senior manager, according to new research.
A survey of more than 10,000 HR professionals in about 1,800 organisations, from Croner Reward and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), also shows that employee relations managers and recruitment managers are also paid more than the average HR worker.
Charles Cotton, CIPD reward adviser, said: “Reward is becoming more and more important within organisations and plays a key part in attracting, retaining and motivating staff.”
According to the survey, the majority of HR professionals received an annual 3 per cent pay rise. However, there is a significant variation in overall earnings by sector, job role and organisation size.
Cotton said: “Functional specialists in people management are increasingly valued. But with HR adopting the role of business partner, well-rounded professionals, who are proficient across the range of management disciplines, will find themselves in demand and rewarded for their skills and experience.”
