The
Health and Safety Commission (HSC) and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
are launching a scheme to ensure racial equality is included in their
activities.
Bill
Callaghan, chairman of the HSC, said: "The scheme sets out for the first
time how HSC and HSE will take account of the need for racial equality when
dealing with our stakeholders. It also details what we will do to ensure racial
equality among our own staff."
"The
scheme was prompted by the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 and we see it as
a welcome and positive opportunity to overhaul the way we address these
issues," he said.
Callaghan
said both organisations are hoping to receive feedback on the policy that will
enable them to refine and improve it.
