IT and media companies make less use of jobs boards

by Personnel Today 1 Jul 2004
by Personnel Today 1 Jul 2004

Construction
firms and public sector organisations are more likely to use the internet for
recruitment purposes than IT and media companies, according to research from
jobs board totaljobs.com.

The
Total Forum report, a biannual survey based on responses from 210 senior HR
professionals, reveals that, on average, two-thirds of respondents used a jobs
board during the past 12 months.

Construction
firms reported the highest usage (90 per cent), followed by the public sector
(83 per cent) and the legal profession (75 per cent).

However,
only 53 per cent of media organisations used jobs boards, along with 55 per
cent of IT and manufacturing companies.

“You
might expect firms with good communications and technology skills to have made
greater use of online recruitment tools,” said Keith Robinson, commercial
director of totaljobs.com.

“It’s
surprising how far they are behind organisations that aren’t usually associated
with implementing innovative IT practices.”
