Local government organisation denies press speculation

The
Employers’ Organisation for Local Government has criticised press reports that the
Government is putting pressure on it to offer staff a 4 per cent pay rise in a
bid to avert crippling strike action.

In
today’s Guardian it was claimed the Government told the organisation to offer a
4 per cent pay rise for the next three years.

The
EOfLG said that the Government has not put any pressure on them. It said a
three-year 4 per cent pay deal is ‘pie in the sky’ and will not be in the
employers’ proposals offered to unions tomorrow.
