This paper reports on what makes Performance Management work, by exploring various beliefs that people hold about it and how they combine with other organisational factors to produce different styles and approaches based on, for example, business teams, client projects, coaching, competencies or “Total Performance Management”. We look at how enterprises need to flex their approach in the light of changed business requirements and conclude by offering some tips to consider and signposting some traps to avoid.
