The
worst may be over for UK manufacturing, according to the Engineering Employers
Federation (EEF).
The
EEF’s Engineering Outlook survey for the second quarter shows a glint of
recovery. Although it records the ninth consecutive fall in output and orders,
this was the slowest rate of decline for more than two years.
However,
the EEF’s chief economist Steve Radley warns that the improved outlook could be
threatened by the weakness of the world economy – particularly in the eurozone.
He
also expressed concern about continuing cutbacks of jobs and investment in the
sector.
