Proposals
from education secretary Charles Clarke to extend school opening to 10 hours a
day in a bid to provide affordable childcare have had a mixed response.
The
plan was welcomed by national childcare campaigner Daycare Trust who said it was an effective way of
maximising existing resources to fill the childcare gap.
However,
the GMB trade union said school support staff already work more than 100,000Â
unpaid hours a week.
