The
Ministry of Defence (MoD) is consulting on new arrangements for financial
assistance provided to members of the Reserve Forces and their employers when
troops are mobilised.
The
consultation period, lasting eight weeks, wants the views of businesses and
reservists on how the current levels of financial assistance can be improved in
two areas:
–
The level of financial support given to mobilised reservists
–
Financial assistance given to the employers of reservists who incur costs as a
result of staff being mobilised.
The
proposals put forward better levels of support for the reservist, equivalent to
their civilian salary, and improved support for the employer, based on the
actual levels of expenditure incurred in covering for the mobilised employee.
The
new scheme will also be simple to understand and administer.
For
full details of the proposals and an online questionnaire, go to
www.financialassistance.mod.uk
The
consultation closes on 15 October 2004.
