The first wave of nurse consultant posts was announced last month by Health
Secretary Alan Milburn.
The 141 posts cover a wide range of specialities, from mental health to
paediatric intensive care, and are allocated to NHS Trusts nationwide.
They were selected from over 300 submissions received from hospitals.
Post holders, who will start taking up their appointments over the next two
to three months, will earn between £27,460 and £42,010 and spend a minimum of
50 per cent of their time working directly with patients.
They will also be involved in developing professional practice, contributing
to education, research and evaluation and training and development.
