A new school in south London is advertising for a headteacher role with a difference – he or she will recruit its entire team of teachers.
The Elmcourt Secondary School in West Norwood, which is due to open in September 2007, is offering a salary of £90,810 for the job, with an appointment expected in February.
As well as recruiting the new team, the head will be expected to lead on designing and planning the new school and delivering the teaching curriculum.
Anthony Bottrall, Lambeth’s executive member for education, said: “This is not a job for the faint hearted, but the rewards will be tremendous.
“How many teachers will be able to say they helped design and plan the school and grounds and built their own team? For the lucky candidate, it will be a life-changing experience.”
The school, backed by £25m funding from the Department for Education and Skills, will be built by Lambeth Council in partnership with the Parent Promoters Foundation, a group of 200 local parents. Elmcourt will be the first ‘parent-run’ state school in the country.
