New structure of bodies to push best practice

Delegates heard how new bodies announced in the NHS Plan will oversee the development of HR practice in the health service.

A workforce taskforce made up of local managers, members of national and local NHS organisations and DoH officials, will support line management in driving the plan forward. It will report to a new chief executive for the health service and the new modernisation board, both of which were announced in the NHS Plan.

The taskforce will concentrate on issues including recruitment, pay and contracts, education, workforce planning and new ways of working.

NHS Executive HR director Hugh Taylor told delegates that the new centralised bodies were the outcome of consultation with NHS staff at all levels.
