NHS Direct, the nurse-led telephone medical advice service, has launched
touch-screen health information points for the public in Manchester.
The free information points are designed to enable the public to gain easy
access to an array of health information by simply touching an electronic
screen.
The points will include advice and information on everything from rashes,
muscle pain and fevers, to treating hangovers, said NHS Direct.
Users will also be able to take away a print out and keep the results of
their search.
The machines are similar in size and appearance to a cash point, and are
being sited in pharmacies, community health centres, supermarkets, libraries,
universities, ferry terminals, walk-in centres and A&E departments.
