Several thousand nurses have submitted claims for sex discrimination against the government, according to a report in the Nursing Times.
About 12,000 NHS staff have made employment tribunal claims with the first expected to be heard next March.
The introduction of the Agenda for Change pay system was designed to ensure pay equality. However, its implementation means that many female nurses believe they have proof that they have been discriminated against.

The Department of Health said it could not comment because of active legal procedures.
