Karen Thornber has joined Virgin Mobile as people director. Reporting to chief executive Tom Alexander, as a member of the management team, she brings a wide range of HR experience from a variety of organisations, including Marks & Spencer, where she held senior HR roles.
Darlington Building Society has appointed Brian Wilson as its new HR manager following the decision by the present manager, Sue Hook, to take early retirement. Wilson started work for the company in 1992 as chief clerk in the mortgage department.
Mental health charity Maca has appointed David Cankett as head of learning and development. He was previously the training and development support manager at the British Red Cross. Cankett has worked with organisations as diverse as Disney, the LAPD, US Special Olympics and the cities of Santa Monica and West Hollywood before returning to the UK in 1999.
