Online recruitment activity in the HR sector has fallen to the lowest number in 13 months, official figures have revealed.
The number of HR jobs being recruited has fallen from 187 points in July 2007 to 173 points on the Monster Employment Index for July 2008, which tracks a range of online job boards as well as the firm’s recruitment website.
This is despite the index’s year-on-year growth rate remaining unchanged at 5%.

The legal sector saw the steepest decline, but offerings also dropped in the environment, architecture and urbanism sector.
Hugo Sellert, head of economic research at Monster Worldwide, said: “The UK economy continues to slow and the outlook for the rest of 2008 remains gloomy, meaning tougher conditions in the labour market. Given this backdrop, it is not surprising that online recruitment is now moderating, with fewer job offerings than a year ago in areas such as finance, retail and technology.”
