• Newspaper publisher Trinity Mirror, formerly Mirror Group Newspapers, has
appointed Steve Addley as HR director, based in Canary Wharf. Addley was
previously personnel director for Thomson Regional Newspapers.
• Lois Howarth has joined international publishing company McGraw-Hill as HR
manager based at its headquarters in Maidenhead. She moves from academic
publisher Blackwell’s in Oxford where she also held the position of HR manager.
McGraw-Hill has 800 staff and publishes business and academic books and
magazines.
• Accountancy firm Solomon Hare Corporate Finance has appointed Rachel Stone
as HR manager. Stone started her career as a graduate trainee with the Sun
Alliance Group in 1984, becoming a member of the employment and policy research
team. In 1990 she joined Hart District Council as personnel development
manager. She moved to training and management consultancy Priority Management,
as network development manager in 1996, a post she held until joining Solomon
Hare.
• Ashington-based electronics manufacturer Lite-On has recruited Susan
Goldstein as head of HR. It will be her job to introduce a strategic HR plan
covering recruitment and selection, training and development. She moves from
Morpeth-based Essential Management Services, having previously spent seven
years as training and development officer at Northumberland County Council.
• Jenny Warner has been promoted to personnel manager at Dunlop Precision
Rubber in Leicestershire. She joined the personnel department in 1989 spending
several years as a personnel officer before being promoted to personnel
administration supervisor, the job she held until her recent move. She started
with the company in 1980 as a telephonist.
• Millennium and Copthorne Hotels has recruited Tina Dowling as HR manager
at the Copthorne Tara, London, she was previously regional training manager for
London. Joanne Wakefield has joined as HR assistant to vice president of HR,
Sarah-Jane O’Brien.
• Management consultancy People in Business has appointed a former trade
union official to work as a consultant on employee relations. Andy Cook was
full time officer at the MSF union with responsibility for the Legal and
General for three years. He then moved to the Legal and General itself to work
as remuneration manager, then as employee relations manager.
