Jon Porter has been appointed the first personnel manager for Parkhaven Trust, a charity supporting adults with epilepsy and behavioural problems. Porter has nearly 10 years’ experience of personnel management, having previously worked for Home Farm Trust in Bristol – another charity for adults with learning disabilities and for the Probation Service in Chester. Based in Maghull, Liverpool, he will develop Parkhaven’s personnel department and implement an HR strategy to drive the business plan.
Professor Alexander Kouzmin (right) and Dr Michael Butler have joined Cranfield School of Management’s HR group – Kouzmin as head of organisational behaviour and Butler as lecturer in change management. Kouzmin spent nine years as foundation chairman in management at the University of Western Sydney-Nepean and has published 220 papers and reports in more than 45 journals. He has degrees in civil engineering, political science and management and has considerable knowledge of cross-disciplinary reaching.
Butler specialises in management change and in previous research has mapped the rise of new public management. He held roles as a research officer for a museum and art gallery and as a further education lecturer before spending 10 years as a management consultant, working in both public and private sectors. In his role at Cranfield, Butler will research new public management and lecture on management judgement and decision-making.
Susan Clarkson moves to Esteem Computers from the CPS.
A CIPD member, Clarkson worked in HR for the CPS and spent the last five years developing a computerised HR system for the software house. Clarkson’s main responsibility as recruiter for Esteem will be to fill posts ready for the firm’s move to new £1m headquarters before the end of the year. In the longer term, Clarkson will focus on establishing training and personal development programmes. Her appointment comes at the end of Esteem’s most successful year to date, with the company enjoying a rise in turnover of 36.6 per cent on the previous year.

John Gilkes had been appointed director of Drake Beam Morin’s Senior Executive Centre. Prior to joining DBM, a career management consultancy, Gilkes was group HR director at De La Rue, the FTSE 250 company with operations in 20 countries.
