BT Group has been named as the best publicly-listed company for its people reporting practices.
The company won the People Reporting category at the PricewaterhouseCoopers annual Building Public Trust Awards.
The awards, held in London at the end of last month, are open to all FTSE-listed companies and large public sector bodies. They aim to recognise organisations’ efforts to build trust through communication with stakeholders.
The judges were looking for a clear statement of business goals, a human capital strategy and a demonstration of how people contributed to business results.
The judges said: “BT presents a wealth of people statistics underpinned by clear targets – some of which it admits that it failed to meet, a true demonstration of transparency.
“By providing explicit people targets for 2006, it creates a real sense of discipline, and makes itself accountable for its statements. While some readers might find the volume of data challenging, the necessary information on people management is all there.”

The 2005 awards saw an rise in the number of nominations – a trend the judges saw as “encouraging”.
They also said that reporting on people still tended to be in corporate social responsibility reports rather than annual reports.
