Organisations
need to do more to demonstrate effective people management, according to Denise
Kingsmill, chair of the DTI’s Accounting for People Taskforce.
Speaking
at the Employers’ Organisation for Local Government (EO) ‘Improvement Through
People’ conference, she explained why people are the missing link in service
improvement plans.
"Every
organisation now claims commitment to recruiting, training and developing the
best people, but we now need to demonstrate how people are being managed as
this vital asset," Kingsmill said.
Also
speaking at the conference, Les Elton, chief executive of Gateshead Council,
said everyone must understand the vision and council objectives, with members
playing a key part in communicating them.
"Every
member of staff is a leader and we must facilitate innovation within the
workforce," Elton said.
