Personnel Today‘s reporter Kat Baker scooped the best HR journalist newcomer award at the annual Towers Watson ‘Excellence in HR’ awards in London last night (pictured right).
Judges praised Baker’s quality of writing and the ability to explain complex subjects in a lively and interesting manner.
The awards, now in their fifth year, attracted 138 entries from more than 88 journalists working across the national, regional and HR trade press.
A Towers Watson spokeswoman said: “The judges were very impressed by Kat’s interviews with key figures in the industry. The articles were written with intelligence, and explained complicated topics.
“They said they were interesting to read, hit the mark and were well executed.”
Stefan Stern, from the Financial Times, won the national media HR journalist of the year award, and Paul Hill, from the Eastern Daily Press, won the award for regional media. Sian Harrington, from HR magazine, was named professional/trade HR journalist of the year, with the same magazine taking home HR publication of the year (generalist).
Baker joined Personnel Today in February 2009. Prior to that, she worked as a reporter on The Publican.
