Nearly 2 per cent of the UK workforce is employed in call centres according
to Diane Beard, occupational health adviser with Medical Industrial Services
who works with Thomas Cook.
Her presentation at the symposium highlighted good and poor practice in call
centres. She also covered the use of head sets, DSE assessments and the
reporting and management of work-related upper limb disorders. Shift work and
health assessments for night workers were also examined. Other topics included
the importance of communication and the problem of stress.
