The Leyland-based pizza manufacturer Schwan’s has introduced a scheme
enabling its employees to apply for a £1,000 bursary to support a child or
grandchild at university.
Five such grants will be provided under the scheme which is open to all
staff. Similar schemes will run at the company’s sites in France and Germany.
Gary Rae, European HR director for Schwan’s, said: "At Schwan’s we
appreciate how hard our staff work and we like to demonstrate our appreciation
in a variety of ways, such as through official policies or fun events.

"The bursary scheme extends this approach and enables us to make a
difference to the whole family. The money is provided by a special fund set up
by Schwan’s specifically for this purpose."
All members of staff are eligible to apply and the scheme is open to adopted
children and grandchildren.
