Workers
at a food factory have been offered the chance to win £1,000 in a monthly prize
draw if they don’t take any days off.
The
scheme was introduced at VJS Foods in King’s Lynn, Norfolk, in an effort to cut
down on the number of employees who failed to turn up for work on a regular
basis.
Absenteeism
at the firm was 17 per cent last July but has now been reduced to 5 per cent since
the scheme was introduced.
Mark
Oliver, personnel manager at VJS Foods, said the firm’s 400 employees could
also win a share of £50,000 if they don’t take time off for six months.
He
said, "The prize draw scheme has had a dramatic effect on our absenteeism.
It is a double-edged sword because the £50,000 is a reward for the core of the
local employees who all come to work anyway."
