The
prospect of rail chaos is expected to move closer later this week when RMT
workers are likely to vote for industrial action.
A
vote to strike is expected on Thursday from 7,000 rail workers after they
rejected a 3 per cent pay offer and opposed plans to end final salary pensions
for new employees.
Any
strikes could coincide with potential action on London Underground. Workers are
currently being balloted for a walkout, with 10 June – the day of European and
London elections – the likely date for any action.

A
strike on Network Rail would be the first major action over a dispute in which
pension provision is a key issue.
