February has seen a record number of people visiting the Jobcentre Plus website to look for work.
Figures for the first week in February show there were just under 820,000 user visits to the website, with more than 3.8 million job searches being conducted by people looking to find employment.
Compared to the same period in February 2004, user visits to the Jobcentre Plus website have increased by 150,000.
David Anderson, Jobcentre Plus chief executive, said: “With employment at its highest ever level, it is welcome news that more and more people are logging on to the Jobcentre Plus website to look for work.”
Anderson said the reason for the increase in visits to the website was that New Year is historically a busy time for people looking for work, and that Jobcentre Plus had invested in technology, enabling the website to increase its capacity.
