Retail
firms are becoming increasingly concerned that they will be unable to recruit
the right staff to work over the busy Christmas period.
One
in five are now worried the right staff will not be available for the festive
period, according to the Deloitte Retail Survey.
A
third of retailers expect customer service to drop over Christmas while half
feel they must harness the skills of existing staff and managers to maintain
acceptable levels.

Surprisingly,
only 27 per cent consider training as essential to improving customer service,
while one in five stores don’t recruit any additional staff over Christmas.
