US
computer firm Insight Enterprises is creating 1,700 jobs in South Yorkshire by
investing £67m in the region.
The
Arizona-based firm opted to build its new European headquarters in Sheffield
ahead of competing sites in Holland and Ireland.
"This
is tremendous news for South Yorkshire and the region. It delivers 1,700 jobs,
of which more than 700 will be in high technology," said Graham Hall,
chairman of Yorkshire Forward, the regional development agency.
The
jobs are being created in an area containing some of the country’s highest
long-term and youth unemployment.
Insight
employs 3,400 people worldwide and had sales of around £1.3bn last year.
