Twenty-two
per cent of employees at life assurance and financial services company
Countrywide Assured Group, have swapped part of their salary for cheap home
computers in a new staff benefits scheme.
The
programme takes advantage of tax breaks which aim to get more people online.
Under
the scheme, run by PeoplePC, employees sacrifice a small percentage of their
salary over 41 months. This allows Countrywide to recover its costs, while the
employees get PCs at a 70 per cent discount.

Michael
Nower, finance director at Countrywide, said: "In addition to the obvious
financial attractions of the package, we feel that our employees and their
families will also benefit, improving their familiarity with PCs in this
increasingly computer-literate world."
