Work-related ill-health costs the Welsh economy nearly £500m a year an OH
conference in Cardiff was told last month.
The conference was held to mark the launch in Wales of Securing Health
Together the new occupational health strategy for Great Britain.
Speaking at the launch, Bill Callaghan reaffirmed the emphasis on
rehabilitation as a core part of the strategy. "In today’s society nobody
should be denied a job because of disability or other factors," he said.
"Targeted advice and dedicated rehabilitation programmes will help us
deliver that imperative."

It is presented to public and private sector organisations that have
demonstrated a commitment to improving the health of their workforce. Edwina
Hart, National Assembly Secretary of Finance, said, "The new corporate
health standard will be the spur to encourage employers in both the public and
private sectors to take a modern, proactive approach to workplace health."
