An estimated 40 per cent of people working in the IT,
telecommunications and manufacturing sectors feel insecure in their jobs,
research released today reveals.
The survey, carried out on behalf of recruitment firm
newmonday, also shows that a quarter of those employed in marketing, public
relations and advertising don’t believe they have job security.
Roderick Wijsmuller, managing director of newmonday, urged
employers to make redundancies only as a last resort.
He said, “UK plc needs to take a longer term view of
performance instead of hoping to solve short-term problems with a swathe of
redundancies. This stop-go approach only serves to increase job insecurity and therefore
stress, leading to less productive workers.”
NOP Solutions, which was commissioned by newmonday to carry
out the research, surveyed 996 people aged over 16.
