Motorola
workers at Swindon face an uncertain future after the company announced its
plans to restructure its business.
Motorola’s
management at the manufacturing site in Swindon is establishing a consultation
forum to discuss the restructuring programme. The site, which employs 1,600
workers, manufactures the parts for mobile phone networks.
“The
HR manager at the Swindon site, senior management figures and staff
representatives will be present at the first consultation forum on 5 March. No
decision will be made about re-structuring until after the consultation next
month,” said a Motorola spokesman.
Last
week Motorola announced 4,000 job cuts worldwide in an attempt to boost
profits. But the company said its Scottish semiconductor operations were
unlikely to be affected.
