Tesco
has launched the UK’s biggest retailing careers web site to help it fill over
20,000 vacancies this year.
The
company, which is the only grocery retailer to offer global job opportunities on
its web site, has taken its recruitment process online as a result of its plans
for rapid expansion at home and abroad.
The
web site contains information for potential employees, including the facility
to search online for current vacancies and to apply online for selected posts.
It
also offers information about working for Tesco and profiles of business
functions and people.
David
Fairhurst, Tesco’s global resourcing director, said, “Our new careers web site will link us to an unlimited pool of
new talent as we continue our global expansion.
“We
are one of the country’s leading employers and we work hard to develop our
people from within the company. But our growth means we have a huge demand for
new staff. Our new web site means we can do more to help job seekers – speeding
up our recruitment process to help boost our first-class Tesco team.”
According
to Tesco, which employs 177,000 staff in the UK and a total of 240,000
worldwide, research shows that more than 14 million people in the UK can access
the Internet at home and an increasing number of job-seekers are using the web.
The
website also fits in with Tesco’s policy to take account of the aging
population and actively recruit those aged over 50 by targeting "silver
surfers" who have been identified as using the internet in increasing
numbers.
