Supermarket chain Tesco is to move hundreds of IT support jobs to India, according to reports from the area.
The Times of India claims that the initial 400 jobs will be for software professionals. Tesco’s plans to have 770 employees in its Indian operation by the end of 2005.
The move comes as part of plans to standardise IT systems across Tesco’s 2,400 stores worldwide.

The company announced in July 2003 that it would create an IT support centre in India, but assured staff it would not lead to widespread job losses.
Philip Clarke, director of IT and international operations at the company, said the jobs would be “transitioned out of the UK”.
