Guru thought that after months of e-mailing their recruitment woes, his disciples would be running out of steam.

• The whole of her supporting statement for her application read: “Once when I was asked to complete some urgent work, I cancelled my hairdressers and manicurist appointments, and stayed to do the work.” Disciple Linda
