The new super-union formed by the merger of Amicus and the Transport & General Workers’ (T&G) union will be called Unite, according to newspaper reports.
The Times reports the name will be unveiled early next month, when the two million-strong union formally begins work.
The paper reports Unite is the only name that the two general secretaries, Derek Simpson of Amicus and Tony Woodley of the T&G, could both back.
Names previously touted include OneUnion, United and Union@work.

Woodley and Simpson will serve as joint general secretaries of the new union. A sole general secretary will be elected in a membership ballot in 2010.
