An
Internet training system for trainee technicians in the retail motor industry
has been launched by its industry training body. The Institute of Motor
Industry (IMI) initiative will allow candidates taking National and Scottish
Vocational Qualifications to be tested on their knowledge and diagnostic skills
in a range of disciplines online. About 200 colleges in the UK are being
accredited by IMI to conduct the new tests. www.motor.org.uk
IT
centre aims to add skilled people to workforce
Employment
agency Adecco has invested £700,000 in a new training centre in Leeds, part of
a £10m investment that the group is making in call centre and IT training
across the UK. It is the second of a projected 15 centres to be opened across
the UK. The training will be open to anyone seeking employment and is expected
to bring more than 300 skilled people into the workforce over the next 10
months.

More
than 250 employees have signed up for free French lessons at Dover-based ferry
operator P&O Stena Line. The new round of training is linked to NVQs at
Levels 1, 2 and 3. The classes will take place outside normal working hours and
