Leaders of the Transport and General Workers Union at the Heathrow Terminal 5 construction project will meet with construction union Ucatt and the GMB union tomorrow to discuss the next steps following a strike vote in a row over bonus pay.
The T&G balloted more than 150 of its members after they rejected an offer from employer Laing O’Rourke to increase their guaranteed bonus by 22p an hour instead of the £1 they have demanded.
“The best result for tomorrow’s meeting would be for Laing O’Rourke to say they will meet with us together with an offer to match our £1 an hour claim and bring the workforce into line with other companies on site,” said Alan Brkljac, T&G regional industrial organiser.

“At the moment, all our options are open but the T&G is clear we have a strike vote and the authority to proceed with action if that is the right course.”
The T&G represents a range of workers across the site including scaffolders, plant operatives, concrete finishers, plus other craft workers and general labourers.
