Trinity Mirror print workers vote for industrial action on pay freeze

Print workers at newspaper group Trinity Mirror’s 12 UK printing sites have voted in favour of industrial action.

While only 436 of the ballot papers sent to more than 1,000 members of trade union Unite last month were returned, 280 staff voted for action short of striking, in response to a nationwide pay freeze implemented last November.

Staff voted not to strike, and have until the end of the month to decide whether or not to take part in industrial action, reported journalism website Holdthefrontpage.co.uk.

A Trinity Mirror Spokesman said: “It is extraordinary that Unite are proposing to continue with any form of industrial action, given that they themselves describe the turnout as disappointing.”
