The gender pay gap had widened in the UK from 21.9% back in 2007 to 22.6% today, according to the Women and Work Commission.
A report out today claimed a lack of government action to tackle gender stereotypes in schools had contributed to women’s pay failing to catch up with that of men’s, the BBC website reported.

Work experience placements for girls in occupations where women are traditionally not well represented and a boost in wages for the childcare sector were among the commission’s 43 recommendations on equal pay.
The commission has called for a government strategy to tackle stereotyping in careers advice.
