National stress awareness day 2008: free guide to managing stress

by Personnel Today 29 Oct 2008
by Personnel Today 29 Oct 2008

In support of National Stress Awareness Day on November 5th 2008, Inner Physique, a leading edge stress management solution provider is again giving away a free, detailed guide on “How to Manage Work-Related Stress”.

Following the success of last year’s guide, this year’s guide contains much more detail and is a useful resource for anyone tasked with delivering a stress management strategy within their organisation.

National Stress Awareness Day (NSAD) is organised by the International Stress Management Association UK, a registered charity whose aim is to advance the education of the public in the field of biological stress.

NSAD aims to help people by highlighting the many coping strategies and sources of help available to people who want to reduce the harmful effects of stress in their lives.

Now in its 10th year, NSAD is a firm fixture in the UK calendar on the first Wednesday of November.

“How to Manage Work-Related Stress” is written in plain English for the HR, Occupational Health and Health & Safety professional and is divided into the following three sections:

Step 1 – Preparation

  • Understand the motivating factors for managing stress
  • Understand the HSE Management Standards and Guidelines
  • Build your Business Case and obtain senior management support

Step 2 – Development

  • Develop your Stress Policy
  • Conduct your Risk Assessment, Focus Groups and Fact Find
  • Develop your Stress Management Strategy and Gain Approval to Proceed

Step 3 – Implementation and Evaluation

  • Implement your Stress Management Strategy
  • Monitor and record activity and evaluate it against predefined targets and objectives
  • Review your strategy and implement any changes

Managing Director of Inner Physique, Richard Adams, says,

“We often come across organisations that have implemented stress management initiatives but have found it difficult to deliver on promises made at the outset of their project.

“This detailed guide will assist organisations to identify each of the core components that we believe should be present in a well rounded, proactive, stress management/wellbeing initiative and help them to develop and implement a strategy that follows the HSE’s best practice guidelines.
