A recruitment company claiming to sell job interviews to jobseekers from the developing world has been wound-up by the High Court in Manchester.
The move follows a probe by the Companies Investigation Branch (CIB) of the government-backed Insolvency Service.
The investigation found that Data Jobs Limited, which claimed to be a “global leader in online data entry job opportunities”, operated through a website aimed largely at Kenyan nationals suggesting it could provide job interviews in return for a small fee.
Candidates were being misled through ‘online interviews’, success in which meant they had to pay £38 to gain the necessary tools to obtain the jobs.
These turned out to be irrelevant CDs or other information which was available free on the internet.

The company refused to provide any evidence of its sifting procedures and also overcharged for post and packaging when most of the material was available online.
The CIB said it also had additional concerns about how the personal information would be stored and safeguarded by the company.
