Government launches Employer Based Training Accreditation initiative

by John Charlton 17 Mar 2008
by John Charlton 17 Mar 2008

University accreditation of employer-led training schemes has come a step closer with the launch of Employer Based Training Accreditation (EBTA).

This government-backed initiative’s remit is to give employers advice and support to help raise the status of company-based training by aligning it with university standards. Staff completing university-accredited training successfully will be awarded credits that count towards a university degree or other qualification.

EBTA will be managed through Foundation Degree Forward (FDF) which promotes foundation degrees to employers.

It was launched recently at a reception hosted by Kelvin Hopkins MP, chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Further Education and lifelong learning and education minister Bill Rammell. He said: “EBTA will encoruage employers to recognise the importance of improving the skills of their workforce and applies the rigorous standards of university learning to their in-house provision.”

Microsoft. Tesco and Vodafone were among those employers who attended the launch.

EBTA has 24 trained facilitators who will advise employers on the scheme and how to get workplace learning university accredited.

FDF said the scheme will be publicised through local chambers of commerce and sector skills councils.
