Lesbian soldier claims she was harassed for sex by male sergeant

An employment tribunal has heard how a lesbian soldier was harassed for sex by a male sergeant.

Lance bombardier Kerry Fletcher was reportedly sent a text message by the sergeant, who told her she should have “a real man someone like me”.

In another text, he said: “Look, I might be able to convert you. You don’t know what you are missing,” the hearing in Leeds was told.

Fletcher is claiming sex discrimination and discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation.

She told the tribunal: “I was panic-stricken and embarrassed. He was my boss. I thought this was completely out of my control.”

The tribunal heard how after making official complaints about the sexual harassment, Fletcher’s convertible sports car had its roof slashed twice.

She said her life was made a misery at work after she ignored the sergeant and complained that she was being victimised. “I was criticised for everything I did. I found that I did not want to go to work,” she said.

Fletcher is now serving in the Territorial Army Signals Regiment in Redditch, and the hearing continues.
