Presenting new managers with an action plan is a clever idea, and the authors are to be congratulated for making the plan accessible and achieveable. I was impressed with its interactive nature – offering downloadable tools for checklists, allowing them to be edited and stored, and it gives the reader milestones and targets for the first 100 days and gets tough quite quickly.

There is an excellent use of appendices – which cover many of the popular business tools, including decision-making and brand positioning.

There should be a large market for this book, as 40% of new managers allegedly fail in their first18 months.

However, its US heritage and idiosyncrasies mean it might be better used in the UK as inspiration for training courses.
