Firefighters in Merseyside have reached an agreement with employers after a series of strikes over changes to working practices and allegations of job losses.
More than 1,000 firefighters have now returned to work after a number of walk-outs over the past four weeks.
A deal was agreed between management and the Fire Brigades’ Union (FBU) last week after several days of negotiations.
Tony Newman, chair of Merseyside Fire Authority, said the agreement would help managers deliver £3.5m of savings.
“Normal service will be resumed very quickly, but I must also pay tribute to the 200 staff who have worked so hard to keep the communities safe during the dispute and their families,” said Newman.
Talks are continuing to turn the agreed principles into a collective agreement, which will signal the official end of the dispute.
The authority said it was open to a joint review of industrial relations to ensure “future industrial harmony” in the service.
