Clear business objectives more critical than gender

I read your ‘Women’s drivers’ roundtable feature with interest.

As one of few women reporting in to a board of men in our organisation, my own experiences are that if you have a clear business objective, supported by a strong business plan and an indication of how you will measure return on investment, my gender doesn’t matter.

I am generally well-supported and empowered to get on with the job. The HR function here is probably taken more seriously than most as we are a recruitment company, and as a people/sales-focused business, our retention rate has an immediate impact on business performance.

Senior directors are forced to acknowledge the strategic value the HR function can add.
