More Whitehall departments in capability review

Cabinet secretary Sir Gus O’Donnell (above) has announced that five more Whitehall departments will undergo capability reviews. Teams will consider leadership, strategy and delivery in the Ministry of Defence, Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and the Department for International Development.

More employers close final salary pension schemes

Two more companies have announced changes to their final salary pension schemes. Retailer Debenhams is planning to close its £500m scheme to new employees and stop existing members from building further benefits. Insurance broker Jardine Lloyd Thompson is also proposing to close its final salary scheme in a bid to reduce a pension deficitof £146m.
