Recruitment is a task that is inherently linked to the HR department, so it’s surprising that it is perceived as such a problem (‘HR’s role in recruitment called into question by shock survey’, Personnel Today, 23 May).
I would ask the 75% of organisations that stated they have encountered problems recruiting whether they have truly made the most of “selling” the vacancy and the organisation to the potential candidate pool?
It is a constant source of surprise to me how many recruiters expect the applicant to do all the work. Recruitment is a two-way process. And in a market characterised by skills shortages, HR has a huge opportunity to demonstrate the important role it can play in helping to find the right people.
