Bankers at Barclays Capital received an average bonus of nearly £250,000 last year.
The bank’s annual results showed that a total of £1.1bn had been paid out to 4,500 investment bankers in annual performance bonuses, including a £15m bonus to group president Bob Diamond.
Barclays reported record profits of £5.28bn overall, compared to £4.60bn the previous year.
Diamond has around £50m invested in Barclays’ shares and will also collect a separate bonus of £14.8m if he continues to reach targets, according to reports.
Barclays, the UK’s third largest bank, said the figures reflected the business’s “outstanding” performance.
The UK’s major banks are expected to announce collective profits of £34bn.
